Tofutarians

Somebody recently asked what Phoenix' favorite food is, and my answer was tofu. He knew how to say tofu since he was one year old. At home we eat tofu just about everyday. Since it is a great source of protein for vegetarians, it is a big part of our diet. We can both easily finish an entire 14 ounce pack of tofu in one sitting, and that's about 40 grams of protein split between the two of us.  We might as well be considered Tofutarians.

Tofu can be made into different shapes, textures, and flavors, but on this post I'm sharing one of our quick and easy go-to ways of making tofu.  Here our tofu is cut into large squares, flavored, and then sauteed for about 12-15 minutes. Then we added it as a topping to our pasta. But it can also be added to a bowl of rice, or even cooled down and added as a salad topping.

Giant Tofu Cubes- Ingredients:
  1. 1-- 14 oz. package of Extra Firm Tofu
  2. Salt to personal preference
  3. Black pepper to personal preference
  4. Garlic ppwder to personal preference
  5. Paprika powder to personal preference
  6. Turmeric powder to personal preference
  7. Olive oil to sautee
Steps:

1. Cut your tofu into large squares.

2. Place tofu squares in a large oiled pan on high. Throughout the process you may add more oil if you feel the tofu is drying out too much.

3. Add all your seasonings. Taste throughout, and keep adding as desired.

4. Mix tofu with seasonings. Tofu should have a nice yellow color because of turmeric.

5. Keep it on high for a few minutes to make sure you get the nice crisp on the outside of the tofu, but make sure you are mixing the tofu regularly.

6. Stovetop temperature can be brought down  slowly as tofu begins to brown and crisp.

7. End result is nice crisp tofu on the outside with a soft white interior.

Health Benefits of Tofu:

1. It's a good source of protein, iron, zinc and calcium.

2. It helps to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.

3. It helps to reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes.

4. It helps to prevent liver damage.

5. It helps to strengthen the body's bones.

6. It helps to reduce body weight.

7. It provides relief from gout.
